Our Tigers Unidos/SAVE Promise Club is a new initiative at HSHS with the mission to make the school and community a more safe, accepting, and positive place. This student-led advocacy group is an offshoot of the SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) Promise Club created by the Sandy Hook Promise. They work to reduce suicidality, violence, and bullying by providing information to our students, including getting them trained to use the Say Something Anonymous Reporting Tool which is an app where they can anonymously report suspicious activity and concerns. This student-led group also strives to be good friends to our students and makes providing community service a priority. They have some fun projects planned, like painting tiger paws on the road around the school, reading/mentoring our Elementary School students, and making posters to decorate the Veteran’s home. We also do community clean up projects like teaming up with the T or C Litter Pickers group to pick up trash and beautify our town. We are hoping to start fundraising soon so that we can continue to promote our group and its goals. This group is facilitated by the HSHS Community Schools team – Ashleigh Pratt (Community Schools Social Worker) and Alfredo Aguirre (Community Schools Coordinator) and meets Tuesdays during lunch and Fridays at 9am in room 155. We currently have around 15 members, but we are always looking to grow.
