Students worked in groups of 3 to design a Truss bridge, with Specific measurement parameters for the length, width, height, and weight of the bridge. The students were only allowed to use spaghetti and white glue to build their bridges. The groups spent 6 days building and rebuilding parts of their bridges. On the last days we measured each Bridge and those that stayed within the parameters were tested for failure. We put baking soda boxes on the bridges until they broke -students loved that part!. Students spent some time reflecting on their structure compared to other groups’ bridges and what they would change or modify for next time.

Bridges is one of the Science Olympiad Events that will be available to compete in this January for Middle School students.

These are the students' practice design and building activity.
