Dear Tiger Families, In our effort to keep all individuals on our campuses safe and healthy, we ask that you be extra diligent in making sure your student(s) properly wear a two-layered face mask to school every day to be in compliance with the district's dress code under this current Public Health Order. This is to prevent the rapid spread of COVID-19, mass quarantining of students, and the possibility of having to switch to a 100% remote instructional setting. We have disposable masks for those who forget “once in a while,” but we have repeat “forgetters” who from this point forward will have to call their parents to bring them a proper face mask. Properly wearing a face mask indoors is part of our dress code while we are under this Public Health Order and will be logged in PowerSchool as disciplinary infractions. This means the face mask must fully cover the nose and mouth at all times. Many students and adults are wearing their masks under their nose or under their chin, which is unacceptable. We recommend getting your student(s) a few additional two-layered masks to keep in their backpacks in case they forget. We have had a worrisome rise in positive cases throughout our district, and so we ask for your support and cooperation in this effort to continue to maintain in-person instruction for every student. Thank you!

Tiger Families, The City of Truth or Consequences has informed us of two main water line breaks that have impacted the function of Hot Springs High School, Truth or Consequences Middle School, and Truth or Consequences Elementary and Sierra Elementary Complex. Arrey Elementary is not affected by this and will continue with their scheduled day. Due to non-running water at the three school sites, we are cancelling school for the remainder of the day. Bus and parent pick up will take place at 11:30 at Truth or Consequences Elementary and Sierra Elementary Complex, and 11:45 at Truth or Consequences Middle School and Hot Springs High School. All students will receive a sack lunch when they leave and are encouraged to work on their school assignments this afternoon. We will let you all know as soon as we hear from the City of TorC if this will continue to affect our schools tomorrow. After school athletics and activities will continue as scheduled as they have portable restrooms and bottled water. We are so sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you.

‼️Tiger Scholar Athletes and Activity Members‼️ NMAA just received a call from the NMPED with guidance that has changed within the hour. Indoors – mandatory mask wearing by all including spectators. Outdoors – it is “recommended” that everyone wear a mask no matter the color of the county including spectators. We will continue to keep you updated with the whirlwind of changes. We will do what it takes to keep our kids competing.

Attention all Tiger Athletes/Activity Members, As per the new CDC/NMPED toolkit guidelines, ALL athletes/activity members must wear an approved face mask indoors and outdoors effective immediately. This mandate includes all practices and games, indoors and outdoors, vaccinated and non-vaccinated. Sierra County is now a red county, which means masks are required for all participants in school-based athletics and activities. When traveling to another district, we are required to follow the hosting school's guidelines and mandates. Athletic Director, Alicia Degase, will be checking with schools before travel to ensure we are following their guidelines. If a county is orange or below, vaccinated athletes and activity members will not be required to wear a mask in low-risk activities, which are: Cross Country, Soccer, and Golf. All other athletic teams/activities are required to wear face masks regardless of vaccination status, indoors or outdoors, or color of County. Please try to find the positive in this information as WE ARE STILL PLAYING/COMPETING! We have no changes regarding spectators at this point. All indoor spectators are required to wear a mask (outdoor spectators are not). Thank you for your cooperation!

COVID positivity rates are on the rise in Sierra County. We are currently at a 4.72% rate. We have experienced a number of symptomatic students and staff on our campuses who we have sent home and asked to get tested as a precautionary measure. The state is no longer going to close our schools if we have four rapid responses in a 14 day period, but rather, will be offering guidance if our positivity rates continue to rise. We are hopeful that we will be able to continue with in-person learning this school year with the extra measures our school district has put in place: universal mask wearing, social distancing, air purification filters/systems, hand sanitizer, regularly scheduled cleaning of schools, and a strong awareness for individuals who are exhibiting COVID-like symptoms. Our focus is to put "Students first" and in order to do that, we all need to do our part to ensure that we are not exposed, or exposing others, to COVID-19 and its variants. If you, your family members, or your students are experiencing any of the COVID-like symptoms: Headache, body aches, chills, vomiting, fever, runny/stuffy nose, diarrhea, or loss of taste/smell, please do your best to isolate from others and do not send your kids to school. This is a frustrating place we are all in, but please know that we are committed to doing all we can to keep our kids in school. Thank you for your support.

Dear Tigers, It is with great excitement that I welcome you all to the 2021-2022 school year! I am your Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Channell Segura, and I am so pleased to have you and our student(s) as part of our Tiger Family! This past school year was historic and unlike any other. Even with the challenges we faced during a global pandemic, we overcame tremendous obstacles and accomplished what many believed to be impossible. Our focus on putting “Students first” has redirected our attention on creating initiatives to support our students’ social emotional/mental wellness and academic achievement in our schools. The New Mexico Public Education Department is requiring all elementary staff and students to wear masks while in school buildings. Middle and High School staff and students who are vaccinated are not required to wear masks, but unvaccinated are. No one is required to wear masks outdoors. Even though this is not the news many want to hear, our teachers, staff, and I are still grateful to welcome our Tigers back into our schools for in-person learning in one week, Monday, August 2nd. As a community, we have Tiger Pride and are Tiger Strong! I thank you for your ongoing commitment to our school district and partnership, and I look forward to a wonderful 2021-2022 school year! With gratitude, Dr. Channell Segura Superintendent of Schools

IMPORTANT COVID UPDATE FOR SCHOOL REENTRY! New Mexico school districts have still not received the NMPED School Reentry Toolkit, but this is the information Superintendent Segura did receive today: 1. Masks will be required for all unvaccinated students, staff, and visitors while indoors. 2. Masks are not required for anyone while outdoors. 3. Vaccinated staff, students, and visitors DO NOT have to wear masks, socially distance, or quarantine as long as they can present a COVID vaccination card (to HR for staff; to principal for students and visitors). 4. A close contact is 3 feet for 15 minutes or more for students (entire classrooms, cafeterias, or busses no longer have to quarantine if exposed to an infected individual). 5. A close contact is 6 feet for 15 minutes or more for adults. 6. Temperature checking is only required for unvaccinated staff and visitors. 7. Student surveillance testing is optional. 8. Unvaccinated staff surveillance testing is required at 25% per week or once-per-month. 9. Overnight travel for students and staff is allowed without having to quarantine; however, unvaccinated may not share rooms. 10. In-person Board meetings, staff meetings, and events are allowed, but all must follow the expectations of the public health order. Thank you and please direct any questions to Superintendent Segura at csegura@torcschools.net
