Students from Hot Springs High School STEAM Team traveled to Socorro on Friday, December 2nd to NM Tech to follow up on their geothermal water analysis project they began earlier in the semester. The students got to see several great presentations and experience hands on scientific experiments related to hydrology and geothermal analysis. Bonnie Frey, geochemist and analytical lab manager from NM Tech, along with Sr. Geophysicist and Field Geologist Shari Kelley both presented on the specific findings from our last field trip together. James Witcher a geothermal groundwater geologist who is very familiar with Truth or Consequences, gave a presentation to the students on the geology of the Hot Springs Aquifer located in downtown TorC. Students were also able to participate in an aquifer measurement lab with hydrology professor Mark Person, and work on a "flume" table with Leah Tevis, a graduate student in the Earth Sciences Department. The team, led by HSH Science Destiny Mitchell, spent the day on the campus of New Mexico Tech learning about the fascinating field of Geology. Thanks so much to NM Tech for allowing this trip to happen!

Hot Springs High School and SFE would like to extend an invitation to the families of HSHS students to join us for Thanksgiving Dinner, Wednesday, November 16th @ 11:48am in the high school cafeteria. The cost is $5.00 per person. Advanced orders are appreciated. 575-894-8350. All participants must have students who attend the high school and must check in to the office with a valid ID.
The passing of our PAWs-itivity Tiger went to Amanda Baquara! Serving as one of HSHS’s secretaries, Amanda wears many hats as she juggles her way through keeping track of student attendance and handling all monies received or needed for various fundraisers, fees, and gate admission banks. All while maintaining a positive attitude and always putting students first!
If families are taking your high school students to this state championship, bring your ticket to Amanda and it will be an excused absence!
