Dear Tigers,
It is with great excitement that I welcome you all to the 2021-2022 school year! I am your Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Channell Segura, and I am so pleased to have you and our student(s) as part of our Tiger Family!
This past school year was historic and unlike any other. Even with the challenges we faced during a global pandemic, we overcame tremendous obstacles and accomplished what many believed to be impossible. Our focus on putting “Students first” has redirected our attention on creating initiatives to support our students’ social emotional/mental wellness and academic achievement in our schools.
The New Mexico Public Education Department is requiring all elementary staff and students to wear masks while in school buildings. Middle and High School staff and students who are vaccinated are not required to wear masks, but unvaccinated are. No one is required to wear masks outdoors. Even though this is not the news many want to hear, our teachers, staff, and I are still grateful to welcome our Tigers back into our schools for in-person learning in one week, Monday, August 2nd.
As a community, we have Tiger Pride and are Tiger Strong! I thank you for your ongoing commitment to our school district and partnership, and I look forward to a wonderful 2021-2022 school year!
With gratitude,
Dr. Channell Segura
Superintendent of Schools

IMPORTANT COVID UPDATE FOR SCHOOL REENTRY!

1. Masks will be required for all unvaccinated students, staff, and visitors while indoors.
2. Masks are not required for anyone while outdoors.
3. Vaccinated staff, students, and visitors DO NOT have to wear masks, socially distance, or quarantine as long as they can present a COVID vaccination card (to HR for staff; to principal for students and visitors).
4. A close contact is 3 feet for 15 minutes or more for students (entire classrooms, cafeterias, or busses no longer have to quarantine if exposed to an infected individual).
5. A close contact is 6 feet for 15 minutes or more for adults.
6. Temperature checking is only required for unvaccinated staff and visitors.
7. Student surveillance testing is optional.
8. Unvaccinated staff surveillance testing is required at 25% per week or once-per-month.
9. Overnight travel for students and staff is allowed without having to quarantine; however, unvaccinated may not share rooms.
10. In-person Board meetings, staff meetings, and events are allowed, but all must follow the expectations of the public health order.

WE NEED YOUR INPUT ON THE IDEA OF "FLEX Fridays"
Tiger Family and Friends,
As we plan for next school year, we want to think about how we can utilize our time and resources in different ways to best meet the needs of our students. This past year brought about many challenges, yet the COVID Pandemic brought about new and innovative ways of teaching and learning. Our students now have their own laptops and they know how to learn and complete assignments remotely. The COVID pandemic forced us to create new opportunities for teaching and learning. Our teachers, students, and families did an amazing job shifting from in-person to remote learning, even though there were many growing pains. We are entertaining the possibility of implementing FLEX Fridays (Flexible Learning EXperience) where students would work remotely from home to complete missing or incomplete assignments, work, participate in internships/mentorships, collaborative study groups, academic support, practice athletics/activities, etc.. We would still be a 5-day school week, but one day would be "asynchronous learning" from home. We welcome your input as we work together to re-imagine teaching and learning in Truth or Consequences Municipal Schools to improve student outcomes.
